Grafenwoehr, Germany (September 2, 2008) - Sgt. Stanley E. Black, an Air Traffic Control Operator at the Grafenwoehr Army Airfield, was selected as the 2008 U.S. Army Europe and 7th Army Soldier of the Year in a ceremony in Kaiserslautern on August 28th.

Sgt. Black - the Joint Multinational Training Command's Soldier of the Year - participated with five other soldiers representing various commands in Europe at USAREUR's three-day Soldier of the Year competition at the Grafenwoehr Training Area in August. The event challenged the participants with two land navigation courses, a 15-kilometer ruck march, day and night weapons qualifications, an appearance before a board, written examinations, an Army Physical Fitness Test and a series of other combat tasks.

Sgt. Black earned the honor to represent USAREUR and 7th Army in the Department of the Army-level Soldier of the Year competition in Washington D.C. in September.
