YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea - The U.S. Department of Defense recognized a senior Eighth Army noncommissioned officer in South Korea.
Master Sgt. Latisha Turner received the Defense Department 2013 Blacks in Government Meritorious Service Award during the African American History Month Lunch here in February.
Turner serves as the Area II lead sexual assault response coordinator on Yongsan Garrison, the headquarters post for American forces in Korea.
In her current position, she provides overall management of sexual harassment and assault awareness, prevention and training for Area II, the area that includes all U.S. Army installations in Seoul. She previously served with the Eighth Army's 2501st Support Detachment.
Turner, who is originally from Hague, Va., also won the Federally Employed Women Meritorious Service Award in 2013 for her service as the vice president for Sisterhood Ministries, a non-profit organization outside of the Fort Campbell, Ky.
The master sergeant also previously served as an instructor and adviser at the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute on Patrick Air Base, Fla.
Turner said leadership is the key to succeeding in the U.S. Army.
"It is important to give back and help as many Soldiers in their careers as you can," said Turner.
