GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- Mia Chon, 11, a student at Netzaberg Middle School, reads her essay entitled, "Dear Martin Luther King Jr." during the Black History Month commemoration, Feb. 28, at the Tower Barracks Theater.

Chon's essay was an imagined correspondence between a young girl and King. But, Chon's creativity didn't stop there: The whole essay was also a rhyming poem.

"Marching here and there/You're such a great man/I am very proud/to be your number one fan," said the young girl to King in the essay.

King responds, also in verse, to the letter, describing the beginnings of the Civil Rights Movement in the southern United States.

"It all started in Montgomery/with Rosa Parks/Because she didn't give up her seat,/and that caused some sparks."

Chon recited the essay with theatrical flair and was later presented with a certificate of appreciation by Lt. Col. James M. Schultze, commander, 15th Engineer Battalion.
