PICATINNY ARSENAL, NJ--Four Picatinny employees received Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Black Belts and 24 received Green Belts for their work on 13 projects that generated a return investment of more than $23 million in validated life cycle cost avoidance savings for the U.S. Army at a ceremony at the Lindner Conference Center on Jan. 23.
The bi-annual ARDEC/PEO-Ammunition Lean Six Sigma certification ceremony was held by the Lean Six Sigma Competency Office to recognize the individuals and teams that have completed LSS projects and earned LSS Black Belt or Green Belt certification from August through December 2013.
Lean Six Sigma projects are intended to develop potential cost avoidance and savings, improve quality and customer satisfaction and reduce risk to the Warfighter.
The recipients worked in project teams on a wide range of technical and transactional projects that include developing new products and processes and improving or "leaning" existing products and processes.
The ARDEC/PEO-Ammunition LSS program continues to develop Continuous Process Improvement processes. It also provides vital LSS training and project support across ARDEC, PEO Ammunition and other Defense Department and Department of the Army organizations in order to meet customer needs.
The recipients were all instructed with an ARDEC/PEO-Ammunition Enterprise LSS Green Belt and Black Belt curriculum that has been piloted with the Department of the Army.
All of the newly certified employees work for the Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center or the Program Executive Office for Ammunition.
Gerardo Meléndez, Director, ARDEC served as the keynote speaker for the event. Mitchell Bomus, Chief of the LSS Competency Office announced the certifications, and closing remarks were delivered by Acting Director of the Quality Engineering and System Assurance Directorate, John Finno.
