The 2014 Association of the United States Army Winter Symposium closed just after noon Feb. 22 here after two and a half days of discussion and collaboration between the Army and defense industry elements.

Huntsville was chosen for this year's event base on its proximity to numerous military agencies and defense industry partners. That decision showed in the increased number of participants. According to AUSA officials, the symposium was attended by more than 5,700 exhibitors, speakers and attendees - four items as many as last year's symposium.

During closing remarks, AUSA President, retired Army Gen. Gordon Sullivan called the event an overwhelming success. "This has been one of the most productive (symposiums) we've held," he said. "We've been able to hold these great open meetings. Our industry partners have told us the same thing."

The event, themed America's Army: Sustaining, Training, and Equipping for the Future, allowed Army and defense industry to collaborate on a variety of topics. Panel topics included Industrial Operations, Modernization, Industrial Partnering, the Operational Environment in 2025, 2030 Requirements, and Operationalizing the Cyber Domain for the Army.
