The Office of the Army Chief of Staff announced Brig. Gen. Susan A. Davidson will be assigned as commanding general of Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command effective June 13.

Davidson is currently commander of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution in New Cumberland, Penn.

Maj. Gen. Thomas J. Richardson, current SDDC commanding general since Mar. 27, 2012 will be retiring.

Davidson has held a wide variety of command and staff positions. Among her previous assignments, she served as commander of then- SDDC's 599th Transportation Group, Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, which she also deployed during that assignment to simultaneously serve as commander of the 595th Terminal Transportation Group in Kuwait for six months. Prior to her current assignment, Davidson also served as SDDC's deputy commanding general.

SDDC provides global surface deployment and distribution services to meet the nation's objectives and deploys/sustains about 90 percent of Department of Defense equipment and supplies by leveraging the capability of commercial industry and other military services.
