GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- U.S. Army Europe Senior Enlisted Advisor, Command Sgt. Maj. David S. Davenport Sr., hosted approximately 50 senior enlisted leaders from throughout USAREUR at the 7th Army Noncommissioned Officer Academy here Feb. 6-7 at the 2014 USAREUR Command Sergeants Major Training Conference.
"The purpose of conferences like this is to ensure all of our command sergeants major and sergeants major are on the same page when it comes to leading our Soldiers and it facilitates the exchange of ideas between senior leaders to resolve policy, operations and structure challenges," Davenport said. "It's also about developing our next generation of Army professionals."
The conference is one of many USAREUR events aimed at bringing senior leaders together throughout the year to develop skills and leadership, address issues and build professionalism.
"It's about trust; achieving a climate of change and it's about developing units filled with well-developed Soldiers and civilians (who) will become our nation's next generation of Army professionals," said Davenport, whose goal is to achieve a standards-based organization with its foundation built around Army standards.
Some of the key topics discussed this week included newcomer sponsorship, suicide prevention, the Army's Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Program, Structured Self Development and the profession of arms.
"These senior leaders will take these initiatives back to their respective commands and implement changes within their organizations," Davenport said. "The information they gather here will help them build a sense of ownership and alignment within their units so that they can lead change, develop leaders, and achieve higher standards."
