New closures, big news items announced at town hall

SCHWEINFURT, Germany -- Garrison leaders hosted a town hall Jan. 21 at the Conn Club to promote upcoming events and to address questions and concerns from the community here.

The town hall forum condenses FRG Leader Update meetings with the Community Town Hall. The next town hall is scheduled March 18 at a to-be-determined, on-post location.

EVENTS

• Community Winter Fest & Flea Market Jan. 31 from 10 a.m. -- 6 p.m. at the Finney Fitness Center.

• Single Soldiers' Super Bowl Party Feb. 2 beginning at 8 p.m. at the Finney Rec Center.

• Ski trip in Italy Feb. 14 -- 17.

• $2,000 scholarships available at the commissary. Download an application at www.militaryscholar.org or pick one up at the commissary. Deadline to submit is Feb. 28.

• Community Clean Sweep Week Feb. 3 through 7.

• Bulk trash pickup Feb. 11 and March 11. Bulk trash collected once a month.

• Community Prayer Breakfast Feb. 21 at the Conn Club. Open to the entire community. Pick-up tickets at the Ledward chapel.

NEWS

• Schweinfurt's financial counselor at ACS, Arcelio Alleyne, departs Feb. 10. If you need investment advice or counseling, visit ACS before Feb. 10.

• Problems of improper disposal of waste on Askren Manor persist. Report violators to residential leaders or make a confidential report to the housing office via email at usarmy.schweinfurt.usareur.list.usag-schweinfurt-hsg-prh@mail.mil or call DSN 354-6468, CIV 09721-96-6468.

• Be prepared for snow and ice. Road salt is available at the recycle centers free of charge. Snow shovels are available at Self-Help Store.

• The Schweinfurt military community can expect the closure of under-utilized gates in an effort to drawdown. Gates expected to close include Askren Manor's JFK gate and the South Gate (across from McDonald's) at Ledward Barracks. The community will be notified 30 days prior to any gate closures.

CLOSURES

• The Conn Community Club and the Kessler Bowling Center will close Feb. 28.

• Commissary closed Feb. 17 and 18 in recognition of the federal holiday, Washington's Birthday. Commissary closed Tuesday after a federal holiday falling on a Monday.

• The TKS office on Ledward Barracks -- which provides telephone and cable services -- closes March 31. Take all your questions and concerns to the TKS shop before March 31. Visit the Service Closure & Modifications page for details on how this affects you.

• The Religious Support Office to begin shutting down operations. The last offering taken March 16. Chapel Auxiliary support child care ends April 21. And final worship services at Ledward chapel occur June 1. The Religious Support Office will offer worship services at a to-be-determined, on-post location after June 1.

• March 6 -- "Financial Assistance for Job Seekers" class at ACS beginning at 6 p.m. Call 354-6933, 09721-96-6851.

• March 20 -- "Germany's Dual Education System" class at ACS beginning at 6 p.m. Call 354-6933, 09721-96-6851.

• March 22 -- Schweinfurt Career Day from 10 a.m. -- 4 p.m. at the Mercure Hotel. Event includes a resume check plus more than 80 company representatives. The event, organized by Sean Hillyer, will be similar to the last event he hosted in September 2013.
