YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- Members of the group People to People, Seoul Chapter invited U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan leaders and staff to celebrate the 2013 holiday season with them during a Christmas party in the Dragon Hill Lodge Naija Ballroom, Dec. 3.
"What you do to support our Area II military community is truly amazing," said Col. Michael E. Masley, commander of U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan, to the members of PTP. "All of us on Yongsan are grateful for your great support for our yearly events."
PTP Seoul supports numerous military morale events including the annual Super Bowl party, volunteer of the year award ceremony, KATUSA-U.S. Friendship Week, the 4th of July celebration, the Army vs. Navy game, the holiday tree lighting and more.
"It's because of your level of support that you all play an important role in keeping our service members, families and civilians here in Korea, and the whole military community, ready and strong!" Masley said.
Honored by the colonel's remarks, PTP President Yang, Chang Kyoo responded with a friendly comment about the weather.
"Winter is here and the weather is cold, but we can feel a warm breeze in this place of sharing friendship between Korea and U.S.," said Yang.
He explained that PTP Seoul Chapter set up the sisterhood relationship with USAG Yongsan and enjoys serving the American and Korean community side by side.
"Our members actively participate and support USAG Yongsan's Good Neighbor Program and that activity helps improve the quality of life in the Yongsan military community," Yang said. "Therefore all of us are good neighbors, and our help will continue as long as Yongsan stands in Seoul."
Masley's message echoed Yang's continuous commitment to teamwork, and presented him with an engraved crystal award outlining his contributions to the Yongsan community.
"As soldiers and civilians for the Army, we embrace challenges, solve problems, continuously learn, and improve partnerships," Masley said. "As an Army organization, we are well-led and cohesive, with members proud to be part of the team. And that's what we have in this room - Strong partners proud to be part of a team, a great alliance…An alliance that is stronger today than ever before. And that's because of all of you."
Musical entertainment was provided by the 'Hug World Ensemble Team,' with classical piano and operatic vocals setting the mood for the holiday season. Following their performance, Masley presented each of the musicians with a command coin, thanking them for their hard work on the stage and entertaining the guests during dinner.
