2014 Army Business Transformation Report: Providing readiness at best value
January 15, 2014
WASHINGTON (Jan. 15, 2014) -- Army business operations are those activities that enable the Army to execute its Title 10 functions to organize, man, train, equip, and sustain forces. Army business operations scale to the size and diversity of the largest Fortune 500 companies.
Army business transformation focuses specifically on improving both the processes and supporting IT systems that run the Army's business operations. The goal, during this period of intense fiscal pressure, is to reduce the costs of the Army's business processes and free resources for the Army's operating forces.
This report outlines the Army's efforts to improve governance over the Army's Business Mission Area, assert audit readiness, enable cost-informed enterprise governance, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of business operations, reduce overhead in institutional headquarters, and lower the costs of the Army business IT portfolio.
The Army enjoyed many business transformation successes in 2013.
The Army Business Management Strategy, approved by the Under Secretary of the Army in December 2013, codified the Army's plans to reduce the size of the Army's business system portfolio by over a third over the next six years.
The Army sustained the progress of its Enterprise Resource Planning systems within cost, performance, and schedule. The Army successfully underwent a robust series of audits and exams to prepare it for audit readiness mandates in 2014 and 2017.
Army business process re-engineering and continuous process improvement streamlined operations and provided some relief from Army fiscal pressures. Installations became more efficient, and the Army developed a plan to reduce the overhead of its major headquarters.
The focus will remain on taking those actions that will enable the Army to provide trained and ready forces at best value for the nation.
