USAG SCHINNEN, Netherlands Aca,!" Sgt. Jessenia Diaz Lopez, president for the U. S. Army Garrison Schinnen, Netherlands, Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers Program, took top honors as the commanding general and command sergeant major of the U.S. Army Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command named her "BOSS President of the Year" during the annual BOSS Forum at the National Conference Center in Lansdowne, Va., Aug. 8.

"Sgt. Diaz has done an excellent job as president and this recognition is in line with her hard work and dedication to the BOSS Program," says USAG Benelux Command Sgt Major Ralph Ford, "It's a great reflection on her, her unit and the entire Benelux family of garrisons."

"I was surprised when they announced my name and am honored to be recognized," said Diaz Lopez, "I felt I was able to support Soldiers, influence the events we held and give back to the community," Diaz Lopez said.

The honor resulted after a panel reviewed packets of nominees, all of whom had served as BOSS presidents for eight months or more.

"This past year has been an exciting and dynamic time for the USAG Schinnen BOSS program," says Mark Boggess, BOSS program manager for USAG Schinnen.

In addition to sponsoring several community events, Schinnen's BOSS participants enjoyed some down-time at Efteling, a cultural and nostalgic Dutch-themed amusement park, and skiing at SnowWorld in the Netherlands, Europe's largest indoor slope, Boggess said.

BOSS is a dynamic Department of the Army program that single Soldiers can participate in to enhance their well being, contribute through community service activities, and assist in the planning and execution of their own recreation and leisure events.

The BOSS program focuses on active-duty single Soldiers, but BOSS activities are open to all MWR patrons, including the National Guard, Army Reserve, other branches of service, Department of Defense civilians, foreign service members and married personnel. Anyone can participate with the BOSS program.
