Command Sergeant Major Matthew D. McCoy was born in Port Jefferson, New York. He entered the United States Army in June 1992 after earning his high school diploma from East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs, Florida. He enlisted in the U.S Army and attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training as a 25C, Single Channel Radio Operator at Fort Gordon, Georgia.
