Deputy to the Garrison Commander

Mr. Mize assumed responsibilities as the Deputy to the Garrison Commander with the U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan in September, 2015. He serves as the commander's principal civilian executive and advisor on all matters relating to installation management and operations. Mr. Mize also exercises responsibility for providing garrison-wide services in support of over 21,000 Service members, Families, Retirees, and Civilians.

Mr. Mize has over 30 years of operations, plans, training and leadership experience gained during his active duty military service. As a U.S. Army officer, he originally received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant through ROTC from The University of Alabama 1985 and retired as a colonel in 2015.

Mr. Mize's military assignments included Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in the 79th Engineer Battalion, Federal Republic of Germany; Battalion S4 and Company Commander in the 307th Engineer Battalion (Airborne), 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, NC.; Commander of the Sapper Leader Course, Fort Leonard Wood, MO.; Assistant Division Engineer and S3 in the 307th Engineer Battalion (Airborne), 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC.; Senior Engineer O/C, Senior Maneuver O/C, and Strategic Plans and Transformation Director, Joint Readiness Training Center, Ft. Polk, LA.; Battalion Commander, 44th Engineer Battalion, 2nd BCT, 2nd Infantry Division in the Republic of Korea, Ar Ramadi Iraq, and Fort Carson, CO.; Plans and Operations Officer and then Theater Master Plans and Construction Officer, United States Forces Korea--Engineer Directorate, Republic of Korea; Brigade Commander, 1st Engineer Brigade, Fort Leonard Wood, MO.; Director of Operations (CJ-3) NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan/ Combined Security Transition Command -- Afghanistan; and Chief of Staff, Eighth Army, Republic of Korea.

Born in Balboa, Panama Canal Zone, Mr. Mize was raised in a military family. His education includes a Masters of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College, a Master of Arts in Computer Resource Management and Information Systems from Webster's University, and a Bachelor's of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Alabama.

Mr. Mize's military awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (w/OLC), The Bronze Star (w/OLC), the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal (w/4OLC), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal (w/3OLC). He was also awarded the Ranger and Sapper Tabs along with the Master Parachutist, Air Assault, and Combat Action Badges. He is a veteran of Operation Desert Shield/ Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Mr. Mize is married and they have 5 children.
