YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- Servicemembers, family members and retirees looking for a new job or exploring career opportunities attended a job fair at the USAG Yongsan Army Community Services building, Dec 11.

Everyone was encouraged to attend and see what was available. Those who are transitioning from the military to the civilian work force or retirees, who have not yet settled on post-service employment, were the target audience.

Staff Sgt. Carlos Flores, assigned to 595 Maintenance Company, was one of those who came to the event in search of a possible position for when he retires from the service.

"Today's event Job fair holds very good variety of employers wanting Soldiers. It's amazing to find out some of the positions that they are looking for can be easily related to the current job that soldiers have," Flores said. "I think this event is essential for soldiers who are looking for a position after retirement."

Flores explained that like many soldiers, he is in that situation right now.

"I retire from the Army next year, so it's crucial for me to find a job. I really am grateful for the coordinators of today's event, because I actually found some positions that might fit me perfectly," Flores said. "The event held a lot of positions in many fields; I think I made a good call coming down."

The job fair hosted a variety of companies who were able to market their vacancies. Each company had reasons for wanting employees with military experience. Stephen Shealy, construction superintendant for J&J Worldwide services, explained his reason for participating in the job fair, and why he prefers hiring veterans.

"Our firm works mostly on military bases, so it's important to draw positive cooperation from the people on post, which is the main reason why we want a person who has military experience," Shealy said. "But not only that, veterans usually have a good sense of organization, and they know the most efficient way to get the job done."

If you missed this job fair, the next one is scheduled for May 2014. Anyone interested in employment opportunities in Area II may contact Frank Jackson at ACS, 738-7505. You may also request to be added to his weekly job vacancy announcement email distribution list which is typically sent weekly.
