Team building exercise leads to mountain summit
December 13, 2013
With guidons in hand and sweat-soaked faces, commanders from the 2-13th Aviation Regiment recently conquered Mount Wrightson, reaching its summit after meeting the physical and mental challenges of climbing a mountain with a 9,453-foot elevation. Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Clinton Conzemius planned the hike as a team-building event for his company commanders and staff.
During the hour-long drive to the Mount Wrightson trailhead, commanders discussed the route and its significant elevation change, mentally preparing for the physical challenge. Participants from the 2-13th Avn. Regt. climbed more than 4,000 feet during their 5.4-mile hike to the peak.
According to participants, the hike far exceeded expectations. Travel took nearly three hours, and the team battled steep ascends, heavy winds, rattlesnakes and a fast-approaching sunset. When they reached the summit, participants celebrated their accomplishment with high fives, granola bars and by waving to Fort Huachuca in the distance.
