Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, commanding general of the Joint Force Headquarters - National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington provided the keynote address during the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Council (MAC) meeting, Nov. 25, 2013.

The MAC promotes and supports the business interests in the region as it pertains to the defense industry and the military and it also serves as the liaison between the defense and civilian communities.

According to the MAC, the government and defense industries make up approximately one-fifth of Virginia's regional labor-force, and this number will continue to grow with the additional jobs and people coming to the Region as a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) decisions. In recognizing the role the defense industry and military affect the Fredericksburg region's economy, the MAC engages and supports local defense activities.
