• FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas - Soldiers and family members thanked 10 service members for their dedicated service to the nation during the monthly Fort Sam Houston retirement ceremony Nov. 21 at the historic Quadrangle. Brig. Gen. John Poppe, deputy chief of staff, U.S. Army Medical Command, and chief, U.S. Army Veterinary Corps, presided over the ceremony. "I would like to thank you for your dedicated and selfless service to the country you love," Poppe said. "You are counted among our nation's true heroes." The retirees are:  Col. Rufus Woods III, 4th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary); Lt. Col. Robert Whetstone, U.S. Army South; Lt. Col. Mark Probus, Warrior Transition Battalion, Maj. David Jaillite, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army); Sgt. Maj. William Smith, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army); Master Sgt. Willard Witten, U.S. Army South; Sgt. 1st Class Baltazar Mora; 5th Recruiting Brigade; Sgt. 1st Class Pedro Santiago, Dallas Recruiting Battalion; Sgt. 1st Class Eric Rodriguez, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division; and Air Force Master Sgt. Wesley Matthews, 383rd Training Squadron.
