Twelve new Army Knowledge (KM) Management Principles have been signed by the Secretary of the Army and Army Chief of Staff. KM is about connecting those who know with those who need to know, and leveraging that knowledge across the institutional Army and to contractors, non-governmental organizations, the other military services and coalition partners. KM goals support an Army that automatically shares intellectual capital with no structural or technical barriers; an Army that values good ideas regardless of their source; and an Army that really collaborates and values collaboration as a means to mission success. The first KM memoranda published in 2001 emphasized IT systems; now the Army is emphasizing Information and Knowledge Management.
