CAMP HUMPHREYS- The Fall Family 5K and Kids 1-Miler was held at the MP Hill Fitness Center, Nov. 16. About 90 participants gathered for the start despite a thick early morning fog. In addition to the 5K walk and kids 1-miler, the event featured an adult 10K and unit 5K run in eight divisions.

"I'm surprised that so many people came out due to the heavy fog this morning," said Lonnie Herring, FMWR sports director. "But we had a lot of people show up, including kids."

About 20 minutes into the race, the first kids began to approach the finish line. Despite the cold weather, they looked in good spirits. Soon after, adult runners began to cross the finish line. Each participant received a medal, t-shirt and the first place finisher for each division was awarded a trophy.

"The run was a great experience and I had a great time and enjoyed cheering on people as I was running," said Lt. Col. Aaron Eklund with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers -- Far East Division

"I think this event is great for the community and for the people that are able to participate. I'm thankful to be here and happy to be here as well," added Eklund, who also took first place in the 10K men's senior division (30-39).

Near the end of event, a few rays of sunshine began to light up the foggy morning.

"I feel great. It was nice to wake up early this morning, and get out here and see other families and children having a good time," said Warrant Officer Jennifer Nims, who took second place in the 5K women's senior division (30-39)."Today I just ran the 5K, but I'm training for the 10K next year."
