CAMP ZAMA, Japan (Nov. 22, 2013) -- Nearly 500 Camp Zama community members attended the Winter and Fall Health and Safety fair held Nov. 22 at the Community Activity Center here.

William Maxwell, garrison safety manager, said events such as the safety fair are held throughout the Installation Management Command twice annually.

"With every change in season, you have to change your mind-set on how you go about doing things," Maxwell said.

The colder months bring different safety preparations from those observed during warmer months, Maxwell said. It is important to know how to be prepared and safe as the seasons change, he added.

Several Camp Zama organizations set up booths with information to aid in safety preparations. Information on fire, dental, medical, vehicle and bicycle safety was available to community members. Some booths included simulations to aid in the safety training.

An earthquake simulator allowed community members to realistically experience tremors of various intensities. Safety officers were on hand to answer questions about how to react in the event of an earthquake.

Maxwell said all activities should be planned out, and that safety should always be taken into consideration.

"Be deliberate, plan and think ahead," said Maxwell.
