REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- A U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command officer receives Purple Heart.

Maj. William Starr, SMDC's G-3 office, received the award during a ceremony at the command's Redstone Arsenal headquarters Nov. 18 for heroic actions in 2007 during a mission while he was deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

"Receiving this Purple Heart isn't about me," Starr said. "It is about remembering the sacrifices of all of those who received their medals in small ceremonies on battlefields or in hospitals around the world -- Soldiers like Lt. Col. Danny Dudek who was paralyzed in the attack and yet continues to serve, and Cpl. Brandon Craig who gave his life in the defense of his country."

During the ceremony, Starr all received recognition from the Military Order of the Purple Heart of Alabama's commander, Leonard Robinson.
