FORT LEE, Va. - Master Gunnery Sgt. Christopher Baird, Marine Corps Detachment Food Service School staff noncommissioned officer-in-charge, passes the first piece of U.S. Marine Corps birthday cake to Pfc. Madison Kronberger, Aerial Delivery and Field Services Department student, to symbolize the passing of traditions from one generation of Marines to the next Nov. 13.

"Relish this opportunity to serve as a U.S. Marine," said Lt.Col. William Schoen, Jr., Marine Detachment commanding officer. "These traditions have a real meaning; this is how we keep our Marine Corps alive."

Baird was the detachment's oldest Marine, born Oct. 5, 1965, and Kronberger the youngest, born Dec. 13, 1995. The detachment gathered together to celebrate the 238th birthday of the Marine Corps.
