• FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas - Lt. Gen. Perry Wiggins makes his way through the throng to greet each veteran and family member in attendance prior to a ceremony in their honor Nov. 11 at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. An eclectic mix of veterans, service members and their families and friends came together under the common bond of service to their country. Patriotic music was provided by the 323rd Army Band (Fort Sam's Own), and the Texas Children's Choir helped set the mood for those attending. Wiggins is the commanding general of U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) and the senior commander for Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis.

  • FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas - Members of the Fort Sam Houston Joint Color Guard present the National and Service Colors Nov. 11 during a ceremony to honor veterans and their families at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. An eclectic mix of veterans, service members and their families and friends came together under the common bond of service to their country. Patriotic music was provided by the 323rd Army Band (Fort Sam's Own), and the Texas Children's Choir helped set the mood for those attending. "This Veteran's Day, I hope each of you are reminded of the value of the freedom and way of life these great Americans fought to secure," said retired Air Force Master Sgt. Tom Earnest, master of ceremonies, in quoting from a letter by Sen. John Cornyn of Texas. "And, I hope we can show our gratitude to our veterans and the greater military community " not just on Veteran's Day but every day of the year."
