• FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas - Rolando Monsivais (center) reads the City of San Antonio proclamation Oct. 31 for National American Indian Heritage Month at the Fort Sam Houston Post Exchange. "(This month) is to recognize the intertribal cultures and honor the strong and living traditions of the first people to call our land home," according to the opening statement on the proclamation. This year's theme is "Guiding Our Destiny with Heritage and Traditions." The U.S. Army North (Fifth Army)-sponsored event was the official start to the historical month at Fort Sam Houston. "I appreciate (being invited) out here to help participate and do these activities and events," said DeLuna, of the kickoff and other events planned throughout the month in the Fort Sam and San Antonio communities.
