CFC hopeful to reach 2013 goal

FORT BENNING, Ga., (Nov. 13, 2013) -- As the December deadline nears for the 2013 Combined Federal Campaign, donations are still welcome. Dozens of nonprofit organizations rely on charitable contributions to thrive.

CFC Manager Laura Walker said the Columbus-Fort Benning Regional CFC fundraiser is slower compared to last year because of the recent government shutdown. It is down $100,000 from the 2012 campaign. The campaign officially ends Dec.15, giving federal employees four weeks to support the charities of their choice, she said.

"It is completely understandable that federal employees may be hesitant to give because of the past shutdown and the possibility of future work and pay stoppage," Walker said. "Our hope is that all of our Fort Benning civilians have been able to weather this disappointing situation."

Despite the decrease in contributions, Walker said the pilot MyPay CFC module has been a success. The Columbus-Fort Benning Regional CFC was one of 75 CFCs selected across the country to allow donors to contribute completely online this year.

"We have seen about $25,000 in donations from people using their MyPay accounts," Walker said. "Donors have reported that it's convenient and easy. We are excited about the future of donors giving electronically."

Walker said donations of any amount are encouraged.

"I have faith that our campaign will make up some lost ground in the coming weeks and that the Fort Benning community will be as generous as they can be," she said.
