Veterans: Celebrate safely

By Maj. Gen. H. R. McMasterNovember 7, 2013

FORT BENNING, Ga., (Nov. 6, 2013) -- Each year on Nov. 11, we honor a special group of people -- our veterans. I am proud of your contributions to the defense of our nation, and I am proud to serve alongside the great men and women of this Maneuver Center of Excellence. To our veterans and their Families, thank you for your service.

Each member of the Maneuver Center of Excellence is critical to sustaining our Army's combat effectiveness and readiness. Please celebrate this Veterans Day, but be safe and take care of each other. Follow these tips for a safe holiday weekend:

• Drive defensively and plan ahead for increased road traffic and inclement weather.

• Always wear your seatbelt. Ensure that children are secured properly in an approved child restraint system.

• Limit distractions in vehicles. Do not use electronic devices, including cell phones and GPS systems, while driving.

• Manage risk. All Soldiers traveling outside the Fort Benning and Chattahoochee Valley area must complete a Travel Risk Planning System (TRIPS) report, which can be found online at https://safety.army.mil.

As you celebrate Veterans Day, please take a moment to thank your fellow veterans and keep in mind those who are fighting in Afghanistan.

One Force, One Fight!
