CAMP HUMPHREYS -- The Third Annual Disc Golf Lost in the Woods Open Tournament, hosted by Outdoor Recreation, was held at Beacon Hill Park, Oct. 19.

Disc golf, also known as Frisbee golf, is a game where players navigate a course and throw a flying disc towards baskets that resemble oversized basketball hoops. About 30 people gathered at the park for the 9 a.m. start and took out their own discs to warm up.

Round one was played in the morning, and was followed by a skills competition and then the second round and awards presentation. The event was divided into two categories, Pro/Am and Recreational/Beginner.

"We (Outdoor Recreation) had great interest from the community (for this event) and there are a good group of disc golfers here (in Korea)," said Jarred Luko, Outdoor Recreation manager. "They expressed interest in it so that's the reason we have this event. It seemed like everyone had a good time."

During the event, participants were served hotdogs, hamburgers and drinks for lunch.

"I've been playing disc golf for 10 year," said Conor Montague, the Pro/Am winner. "But, I never played anything organized, so this is my third tournament. It was good way for me to get outside and get some exercise and spend some time outdoors. This is a really good way to bring people together. I really enjoyed it."

Joe Allen, from Camp Casey, was the winner of the Longest Drive competition and the first place finisher in the Recreational/Beginner division.

"I picked it (disc golf) up probably in the middle school," he said. "My older brother was the one who got me into it. So, I came down here with my sergeant to participate."

The top three finishers in each category were: (Pro/Am) Montague; Jeong Seung-cheol; and Seth Weimer; (Recreational/Beginner) Allen; Kyle Jones; and John Strong.

All participants received a prize.
