Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., local residents turned in approximately 60 pounds of unwanted medications to Medical Command and Army Substance Abuse Program personnel who will safely dispose of the drugs. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high; almost twice as many Americans, 6.8 million, currently abuse prescription drugs according to the 2012 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.
