409th CSB earns Army awards for excellence in contracting

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany -- Two 409th Contracting Support Brigade civilians are recipients of the 2013 Secretary of the Army Awards for Excellence in Contracting.

The awards, established in 1997, recognizes contracting officers, units and teams for excellence in executing the contracting mission in support of Soldiers and the nation.

Maria Finan, procurement analyst, received the Secretary of the Army Award for Outstanding Contract Specialist/Procurement Analyst. Finan was instrumental in the expeditious assessment of 27 acquisition packages, 50 determination and findings and 17 justifications and approvals with an estimated value of more than $305 million.

Thomas Guyer, Theater Contracting Center, received the Secretary of the Army Award Outstanding Contracting Officer Installation Level- Directorate of Contracting. Guyer improved customer service responsiveness resulting in multiple large dollar actions being brought back in-house, which were previously off-loaded to other contracting activities.

"We submitted our best and brightest for this competition. Their hard work and dedication to the mission has resulted in their nomination and selection by the office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology for this high recognition," said Col. William Bailey, commander, 409th CSB.

Recipients will receive a plaque and recognition in a ceremony sponsored by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Procurement).
