FORT BENNING, Ga., (Sept. 25, 2013) -- Sgt. Shaun B. Marcus, A Company, 1st Battalion, 81st Armored Regiment, 194th Armored Brigade, was convicted Sept. 13 of one charge and four specifications under Article 120 (abusive sexual contact with a child under 16, indecent liberty with a child under 16, indecent liberty with a child under 16, and rape), Uniform Code of Military Justice, one charge and one specification under Article 125 (sodomy), UCMJ, and one charge and three specifications under Article 128 (assault consummated by battery), UCMJ.

An eight-member officer panel found the now-33-year-old Marcus committed abusive sexual contact and indecent conduct with a female child who was older than 12 years of age and younger than 16. The panel also convicted him of forcibly raping and sodomizing his wife. Finally, the panel found Marcus guilty of cutting his wife's leg with a knife, striking her with an open hand and closed fist on multiple occasions, and grabbing her by the neck and choking her on one occasion. Marcus committed his crimes while stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., and Fort Hood, Texas. He was charged in January 2013, while stationed at Fort Benning.

The panel sentenced Marcus to 30 years confinement, a dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and reduction to the grade of E-1.
