CRANE, Ind. -- Crane Army Ammunition Activity hosted Brig. Gen. Kristin French, Commanding General of U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command, Sept. 23, presenting an overview of the Activity's operations and efforts toward improving its production effectiveness and efficiency.

During the visit, Crane Army provided French with presentations highlighting current operations, future goals and its challenges in operating within the confines of greater fiscal restrictions. It was a presentation in line with the views of the general.

"We have to be flexible and look at what workload is happening now and what it will be in the future," French said to CAAA leadership in a morning meeting. She told them that the new JMC fiscal year 2014 strategy is really an overarching strategy focused on safety and taking care of the workforce while still executing the mission.

"There is still some growth in the munitions world, but there are still some lean times ahead," French said. "The Army is going to continue to look at us to keep doing what we do, and in some cases, with less."

She added, "We will be okay in the future. We need to keep the workforce informed about what is happening and be transparent."

CAAA's Commander Col. Robert Dixon and Civilian Executive Assistant Norman Thomas also provided French with a tour of the activity, allowing the CAAA employees a chance to showcase the activity's hard work and improvements.

In her first visit to Crane, French toured the Activity's decoy flare production, demolition area, demilitarization facility, containerization facility and shipping and receiving facilities, gaining the opportunity to better understand how CAAA is able to execute its mission on schedule. French also toured the pyrotechnic facility, ammunition surveillance workshop and Crane Army's Operations center, where she saw the logistical system used to track and increase shipping and receiving productivity.

Established Oct. 1977, Crane Army Ammunition Activity maintains ordnance professionals and infrastructure in order to receive, store, ship, produce, renovate and demilitarize conventional ammunition, missiles and related components. CAAA also provides command oversight of Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Letterkenny Munitions Center, Pa., and Milan Army Ammunition Center, Tenn.
