FORT SHAFTER, HAWAII- In an effort to keep soldiers spiritually fit and to strengthen their character and values, the 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command hosted a prayer breakfast on Sept. 6, 2013 at the Hale Ikena Hotel here.

The theme of the event was "Living At The Speed Of Light" and Chaplain Kenneth F. Revell, the new 94th AAMDC Chaplain was the speaker for the prayer breakfast.

The prayer breakfast consisted of several activities ranging from the singing of the national anthem, Bible readings, a guest soloist, a large selection of breakfast items and words from Chaplain Revell about "Living At The Speed Of Light".

"I really enjoyed the unit's prayer breakfast today," said Pfc. Christina V. Williams, a 94th AAMDC G6 information technology specialist. "It was good food and I think it helps with building morale and camaraderie. It touches my heart to know that others Soldiers enjoy feeding their bodies as well as nourishing their souls."

"I think spiritual fitness is a critical piece of what takes to survive the aches, quakes and the shakes of life," said Revell. Being in the Army presents a number of very diverse challenges; whether they're relational, organizational or they may have to do with deployments or just how to make it on a day to day basis."

Being in the military can be physically and emotionally demanding at times for service members and their families.

Revell also added, "I think the prayer breakfast helps to energize Soldiers, ground them, helps them focus and gives them the thrust and stamina that they need in order to stand up under the demands of life. It's a way of pouring spiritual steel and concrete in people who need that stability and need God to be their rock in the middle of all the challenges."

Spiritual resiliency strengthens a person's beliefs, principles or values. It also is one of the five dimensions of strength in the Comprehensive Soldier Fitness program and represents the Army's investment in readiness of the force and quality of life for Soldiers.

Revell later stated, "We talk a lot about physical fitness and being emotional fit and I think that the spiritual part is the third piece of the triangle that enables people to be successful at life."
