AMC announces environmental awards

REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- The Army Materiel Command on Aug. 29 announced four Environmental Awards and two Green Awards for fiscal 2012.

"These awards are excellent opportunities to honor our installations for their hard work," Pam Whitman, Environmental Division chief, said. "We wanted to recognize our top performers and share their achievements for the advancement of the environmental and sustainability efforts across AMC and the industrial base."

McAlester Army Ammunition Plant received the Natural Resource Conservation Award in the large installation category.

The Aviation Center Logistics Command's STAR 4D team won the Sustainability Team Award for its sustaining maintenance and reducing the environmental footprint program efforts.

The Aviation and Missile Command's Environmental Division received the Sustainability Team Award and the Green Innovation Award for its sulfur hexaflouride reduction efforts.

Red River Army Depot earned the Environmental Quality Award for the Industrial and Green Installation category.

A panel of headquarters AMC staff reviewed and selected winners and they will be considered at the Department of the Army's Environmental Award competition. Installations and teams will be recognized in a virtual awards ceremony to be scheduled soon.
