YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea (Sept. 10, 2013) -- A Defense Finance and Accounting Service team is meeting with Department of Defense civilians who were erroneously paid Living Quarters Allowance in South Korea.

Aaron Gillison, the director of the Defense Finance and Accounting Service Indianapolis, met with civilians at the Eighth Army Headquarters to explain the Living Quarters Allowance, known as LQA, debt waiver process, Sept. 9.

During its week-long visit, the Defense Finance and Accounting Service, or DFAS, team will travel across the Korean Peninsula to assist civilians with the LQA debt waiver process.

The team will meet with civilians at Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, Sept. 11, and at Camp Henry in Daegu, Sept. 13. The team will then travel to Japan.

According to Gillison, the Department of the Army is supporting LQA debt waivers and Army Secretary John McHugh has submitted a letter of endorsement for the waivers.

Gillison said the Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals has approved 49 LQA debt waivers as of Sept. 6. DFAS had worked to streamline the debt waiver process, he added.

Gillison encouraged civilians to meet with the DFAS team and pledged his team is ready to provide "one-on-one personal care" to each affected civilian.
