• FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas - Maj. Gen. Adolph McQueen Jr., deputy commanding general for support, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), presents an Army North lapel pin to Gary Baber Aug. 20 to express his appreciation for the volunteer work Baber's organization provides for the Warrior and Family Support Center. Barber's organization, the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association, has helped the WFSC provide assistance to wounded warriors and their families for the last eight years through donations and volunteer support.  McQueen presented certificates, personal notes of appreciation and Army North lapel pins to Barber and nine fellow WFSC volunteers for their dedication during two separate ceremonies Aug. 20 and 22. "I cannot thank you enough for the service you provide to our wounded warriors," said McQueen.

  • FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas - John and Betty Thompson smile and share a quiet moment together as Maj. Gen. Adolph McQueen Jr., deputy commanding general for support, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), expresses his thanks Aug. 22 for their volunteer efforts at the Warrior and Family Support Center over the years. The Thompsons are known throughout the WFSC as "the cookie people" because they make homemade cookies for the wounded warriors every week. "You make this place smell like a million dollars," said McQueen, as he presents them an Army North certificate of appreciation as well as a personal letter of appreciation from him. McQueen thanked 10 volunteers during two separate ceremonies Aug. 20 and 22.

  • FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas - Rhoda Auerbach smiles as she accepts the certificate of appreciation presented to her Aug. 20 by Maj. Gen. Adolph McQueen Jr., deputy commanding general for support, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), during a volunteer recognition ceremony at the Warrior and Family Support Center. As a volunteer, Auerbach shares her love of music with the wounded warriors and their families every Thursday evening by playing the piano for them. "Through you, the ministry of music resonates in people's hearts," said McQueen. Along with the certificates, the volunteers were also presented personal letters of appreciation and an Army North lapel pin. McQueen recognized 10 people for their efforts at the WFSC during two separate ceremonies Aug. 20 and 22. "Without you, we would not be able to keep this place running," said Judith Markelz, director of the WFSC.
