July 18, 2013
ANSBACH, Germany (July 18, 2013) -- The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families found its way to the Katterbach Fitness center at Katterbach Army Airfield July 17, 2013, where they performed to a captivated and enthusiastic crowd of children and parents.
Elmo, Cookie Monster, Grover, Rosita, and a Honker help Katie, a character representing a child of a military family and who is moving to a new place, understand that she is not leaving her friends and home behind but beginning a new adventure filled with new places and new friends. They also reassure her even though she will be in a new place, her friends will always be there for her.
Katie was specially created by Sesame Street for the USO tours to help children understand and cope with separation and relocation. Katie can only be seen at The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families performances.
At the conclusion of the performance, the USAG Ansbach commander, Col. Christopher M. Benson, thanked the Sesame Street cast, crew and USO production crew for an excellent performance and presented them with a commemorative plaque. Benson also extended an invitation to return at any time.
If you missed this performance, The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families will be touring Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and the United Kingdom until Aug. 20. See the "Related Links" box next to this article for the tour schedule webpage link.
