Yongsan, REPUBLIC OF KOREA -- Col. Michael. E. Masley, commander of U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan, Bupyeong-gu Mayor Hong Mi-young and members of the Bupyeong-gu Korean American Friendship Council attended a luncheon at Hartell House, June 28, to discuss various topics.
U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan and Bupyeong-gu have been good neighbors for many years, nurturing the relationship between Korea and U.S. successfully.
Masley delivered opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and our continued local and national alliance.
"True leadership is proven through service to others," Masley said. "That service to Bupyeong-gu and our other neighbors in Korea is a continuing priority for USAG Yongsan. We value you and we treasure our 60 year alliance. We appreciate your trust and confidence in our service to maintaining our successful relationship with you, and all citizens of Bupyeong-gu and Korea."
Then, Mayor Hong gave a warm welcome to the newest members of KAFC. She also asked for Yongsan's active cooperation for Bupyeong-gu's main interest, sustainable development.
"We are all concerned about the environment these days," Hong said. "I hope the alliance between Korea and U.S. advances in a healthy direction that will let us achieve sustainable growth."
Masley pledged USAG Yongsan's continued cooperation to responsibly support the vision of Bupyeong-gu while preserving the health of welfare of the citizens there.
Both parties expressed a desire to strengthen relations and to keep working cooperatively. Following remarks, the meeting was concluded with a meal shared by Garrison and Bupyeong-gu KAFC members.
Masley, Hong and Bupyeong-gu KAFC members have had biannual luncheon meetings since 2012.
