Pentagon-level SHARP training for Army officers
WASHINGTON (June 20, 2013)--Lt. Gen. Howard B. Bromberg, Deputy Chief of Staff G-1, facilitated a Sexual Harassment/ Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) panel, today, in the Pentagon Auditorium that served as officer professional development for 0-6 colonels assigned to Headquarters, Department of the Army. During the hour-long session, attendees watched a video titled "Effects of Sexual Assault/Sexual Harassment on the Army Profession" featuring a private first class sharing her personal account of sexual assault and attempts for seeking help. Following the video, Bromberg lead a panel discussion on incidents of sexual harassment and assault in the Army's ranks and the actions needed to prevent them. Accompanying Bromberg on the panel was Col. Charles N. Pede, Office of the Judge Advocate General; Brig. Gen. Brian C. Lein, Office of the Army Surgeon General; and CW5 T. L. Williams, Office of the Provost Marshal General. Also, the assembled colonels were given the opportunity to express their views and ask questions pertaining to sexual harassment/assault incidents and how to prevent them. This panel follows the Army's SHARP summit conducted June10 and 11, which focused on achieving cultural change to eliminate sexual assault and harassment.
