U.S. Army Garrison -- Detroit Arsenal, Warren, MI -- Family and Morale Welfare and Recreation and Army Community Service recently teamed up with Art Van Furniture for a special day of food, fun and pampering for Military Spouses.

"This was my first such experience in 25 years of being an Army Spouse and it was exceptional -- 5 Star," said Yalonda Leach, who was one of more than twenty Military Spouses who participated in the recent Family & Morale, Welfare & Recreation (Family & MWR) produced "Military Spouses Appreciation Event" sponsored by Art Van Furniture.

This special event, which began with a wonderful opening breakfast buffet reception at the Art Van Furniture Store in Warren, MI, included a complimentary manicure and pedicure combination with a delicious lunch buffet at Aretee Day Spa in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan.

Cathy Terry, wife of Maj. Gen. Michael Terry, Commander, TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, joined the FMWR host team greeting spouses upon their early morning arrival to Art Van Furniture.

After being introduced to speak, Terry welcomed the ladies and encouraged them to relax, have fun and enjoy themselves.

To say it was "just" a day of pampering would not do it justice. With special focus on treating the spouses as royalty, the red carpet was rolled out from the start of the event at Art Van Furniture for breakfast and conversation, to the bus ride to Grosse Pointe Woods' Aretee Day Spa for relaxing treatments and lunch then back to Art Van Furniture for an early dinner.

More than twenty enthusiastic Military Spouses were pleasantly surprised with the

VIP treatment received throughout the day and FMWR provided each spouse with a tote bag that included a family four pack of tickets to a Tigers Game.

Following the visit to Aretee Day Spa, the spouses re-boarded the bus and returned to Art Van Furniture for a late afternoon gathering of good conversation along with gourmet sandwiches, salad, lemonade and iced tea.

"Soldiers, Veterans and their families mean everything to us and the Spouses are extremely important so we strive to produce top-notch, valuable, fun and memorable events with great partners like Art Van Furniture, Aretee Day Spa and The Detroit Tigers," said George Bournias, from FMWR marketing.

Art Van Furniture's Jaime Rae Turnbull was charged-up about partnering with FMWR to host Spouses Appreciation Day and added "we are thrilled that everyone enjoyed themselves."

Terry thoroughly enjoyed time chatting with the ladies adding, "I am so happy it was a definite success with many happy spouses!"

With continual emphasis on supporting the Army Family Covenant, Denise Ellis-Goyke, Family & MWR Director commented that "our team is always hard at work and focused on providing creative, unique and special opportunities for the our Soldiers and their families, in addition to Veterans and Department of Army Civilians -- especially during uncertain economic times."

One thrilled spouse, Jessica Fuller, summed up the day by saying the experience was "awesome and I loved every second!"
