In conjunction with the U.S. Army's 238th birthday, senior leaders from the NFL, the US Army and Weil Cornell gathered in New York City, June 13 to discuss Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), suicide and Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP).

The engagement panel, held at the American Management Association Conference Center, focused on the 'Ready and Resilient Campaign', the Army's nationwide communication effort to bring awareness to health-related issues.

Gen. John F. Campbell, the Army Vice Chief of Staff, along with the Surgeon General of the Army, Lt. Gen. Patricia D. Horoho. In addition to the military members, JoAnn Difede, Ph. D., a professor at the Weill Cornell Medical College and Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the National Football League, contributed to the discussion.

Senior Army leaders have been working closely with the NFL to foster a partnership and learn more about TBI and other health issues. "We've brought players and soldiers together for forums to discuss the importance of seeking help when you think either you or one of your teammates may have suffered a concussion," said NFL Commissioner Goodell.

In August 2012, the Army and the NFL launched the $60M research and innovation initiative in partnership with General Electric, and Under Armor to advance TBI detection and treatment. "Research, awareness, and clinicalpartnerships help the military better understand how to prevent, detect, andtreat TBI," said Horoho.

The event ended with a greater understanding of the great lengths the Army has gone to address the readiness and resiliency of Soldiers. The 'Ready and Resilient Campaign' encompasses a collaborative, coherent and multi-disciplinary approach to maintaining Army readiness, tailoring prevention, and response measures to promote fitness and strengthen the Army.

The 'Ready and Resilient' panel featuring New York City and Army leaders marked only one of a number of events happening in the city as part of the Army's 238th Birthday. The official celebration will kick off, Friday, June 14, with a Cake Cutting Ceremony at Father Duffy Square - Times Square, followed by a band performance in Bryant Park. Events are free and open to the public. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis.
