SCHWEINFURT, Germany --The garrison's only travel office here is set to close July 30 as a result of decreasing commissions.
The Sato travel office located in The Commons on Ledward Barracks will no longer offer leisure travel services, but will continue offering official travel service to Soldiers and family members.
The Sato leisure travel service has become a resource for military families for planning vacations, especially in Germany. Due to U.S Army Europe's reorganization, many Soldiers stationed overseas are now returning stateside.
A garrison must generate at least 2,500 annual transactions in leisure travel to maintain operations. Due to the decrease in population Schweinfurt Sato missed either annual leisure travel requirement by 166 transactions, according to David Mattingly, the assistant chief of staff to IMCOM-E Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.
Travel leisure offices have also been discontinued in Kaiserslautern, Baumholder and Bamberg as a result of the cutoff, said Michael Duday, the Schweinfurt director of FMWR.
Official travel will still be available at Schweinfurt's Sato office. Travel leisure services will continue in Ansbach, so long as the garrison there maintains a minimum of 2,500 annual transactions.
