PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - Soldiers from the 307th Expeditionary Signal Battalion had the opportunity to work closely with their counterparts in the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces as part of exercise Angkor Sentinel 2013 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, May 16 through 30.
United States Army Pacific conducted the bilateral Army-to-Army exercise at the RCAF Peacekeeping Training Center to demonstrate U.S. commitment in the region and build peacekeeping and humanitarian operations.
"We went there to help build relations between the U.S. Army and the RCAF," said Spc. Daniel Lunceford, Command Post Exercise Help Desk Specialist.
During the exercise, the 307th ESB teamed with the USARPAC G6 to provide communications support to the Command Post for U.S. and Cambodian participants.
"Both U.S. and Cambodian Soldiers benefited from the intense team-building, staff training, and computer and communications systems instruction," said Capt. Timothy Wilson, Command Post Exercise Systems Administrator.
The skills exercised during AS 13 are required to solve complex security tasks. This exercise enabled the participants to exchange experiences on troop evaluations designed to save lives and prevent disruption to military operations.
The U.S. Soldiers provided bilateral training to the RCAF Signal Officers and staff on the installation, operation and maintenance of a communication network supporting over 80 subscribers with 68 computers and 35 phones. The communications team was responsible for laying over 3500 feet of cable, managing five virtual servers providing Active Directory, Share Point, Adobe Connect, CISCO Call Manager, Microsoft Exchange services and for providing Help Desk support.
The 307th ESB and RCAF S6 team strengthened US/Cambodian partnership by fielding over 200 Trouble Tickets with RCAF in the lead and US alongside coaching and mentoring.
"Both U.S. and Cambodian Soldiers benefited from the cultural awareness and technical expertise gained during the exercise," said Sgt. Ramon Rodriguez, Command Post Exercise S6 Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge.
