Based on CECOM's Software Engineering Center's Federated Net-centric Sites (FaNS) interoperability demonstration, the Department of the Army Chief Information Officer/G-6 has approved the Property Book Unit Supply Enhanced (PBUSE) Army Interoperability Certification. Through the use of their FaNS facility, SEC successfully demonstrated PBUSE interoperability with all required interfaces quicker and cheaper than previous interface testing.

PBUSE is the Army's web-based, state-of-the-art, Combat Service Support property accountability system. The system utilizes commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and is operated by both tactical and garrison level supply management personnel. PBUSE integrates property book accountability and unit level logistics functionality for the Total Army.

A net-centric environment is a globally interconnected network environment (including infrastructure, systems, processes, and people) in which data is shared in real time amongst users, applications, and platforms. A net-centric environment provides improved military situational awareness and shortened decision-making cycles.

FaNS is a federation of existing Army and joint facilities networked together to execute horizontal integration and testing of battlefield automated systems. This network is used to supplement facilities and missions. Benefits of FaNS includes the ability to execute distributed risk reduction, test-fix-test and Army interoperability certification (AIC) testing; maintain configuration control of the certified baseline for all mission areas/domains; and coordinate and synchronize the needs, activities and efforts of the supporting and supported communities.

The goal of the FaNS is to allow the Army to grow its interoperability testing capacity and capability, over time, by leveraging existing facilities and personnel and creating a portfolio of facilities that can accommodate flexible distributed AIC testing.

As the certified Business Mission Area Amy Interoperability Certification (AIC) testing facility, SEC-Lee has identified logistics domain systems that are required to be AIC tested, including PBUSE.
