YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- To recognize the successful 2013 KATUSA & U.S. Soldier Friendship Week, supporters and leaders of companies, brigades and battalions from ROK and U.S. enjoyed an appreciation ceremony and luncheon here, May 14.

2013 KATUSA & U.S. Soldier Friendship Week was held April 15-18 in commemoration of 60 years of the powerful partnership. Several events to foster stronger friendship between KATUSA and U.S. soldiers were held that week including sports competitions, cultural events and entertainment shows.

The personnel who contributed to the week of events were acknowledged during the appreciation ceremony held at the R&R Bar and Grill. Col. Michael E. Masley, garrison commander for USAG Yongsan, expressed his sincere gratitude to the contributors who made the meaningful week possible.

"Today's event is a very special one, and it allows us to recognize your hard work that contributed greatly to the ROK-U.S. friendship," Masley said. "Thank you for your dedication, service and for using your talents in support of the greatest alliance in the world."

The contributors were reminded of the successful week by watching the video and photos recorded from the opening ceremony to the closing events. Afterward, personnel who showed exemplary dedication through that week were awarded with certifications and gifts.

"I would like to thank each one of you for your efforts," said Lt. Col. Park Ju Hyun, commander for Area II ROK Army Support Group. "Because of your support and cooperation, I believe that this year's KATUSA U.S. Soldier Friendship Week was an occasion that was more special and meaningful than ever before."

The attendants enjoyed lunch provided by the Area II ROKA Support who also organized and supported the 2013 KATUSA & U.S. Soldier Friendship Week.

"We are privileged to have great KATUSAs and soldiers stationed here together in Area II," Masley said. "They are a unique and critical component of our valued alliance. And each of you are key to strengthening and maintaining the greatest alliance in the world, the ROK-U.S. alliance."
