• CAMP BULLIS, Texas " Spc. Malcolm Knox, Operations Company, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), makes pumping out push-ups look easy May 13 as Staff Sgt. Charles Ridgeway, Operations Company, Army North, grades him during the Army Physical Fitness Test portion of the Joint Base San Antonio 2013 Noncommissioned Officer and Soldier of the Year "Best Warrior" Competition. The event is being held May 13-17 at Camp Bullis and Fort Sam Houston. Knox, originally from Baton Rouge, La., is one of three Army North Soldiers in the competition, which also includes Soldiers from U.S. Army South, U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School, U.S. Army Southern Regional Medical Command and U.S. Army Installation Management Command. Later in the week, the Soldiers will be tested on their ability to successfully complete a multitude of Soldier tasks and skills, such as day and night land navigation, combatives, weapons qualification, an oral board and a written examination. The two other Soldiers from Army North are Staff Sgt. Jason Proefrock, Intelligence and Sustainment Company, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, and Staff Sgt. Jason Ruiz, Headquarters Support Company, HHBn.

Ruiz, originally from Deltona, Fla., along with two fellow Army North Soldiers, Staff Sgt. Jason Proefrock, Intelligence and Sustainment Company, HHBn, and Spc. Malcolm Knox, Operations Company, HHBn, are competing in the week-long competition, which will culminate with  a barbecue May 17 at Army North's historic Quadrangle.
