SEOUL (May 3, 2013) -- The Eighth Army commanding general thanked South Korean business leaders for their support of the Republic of Korea-United States Alliance, today.
Eighth Army Commander Lt. Gen. John D. Johnson spoke to more than 300 business leaders at the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry in downtown Seoul.
"Our commitment to the ROK-U.S. Alliance today remains as strong as it was when President Truman first committed troops here in 1950," said Johnson, who has commanded Eighth Army since November 2010, "and we look forward to the next 60 years of this tremendous alliance."
Johnson also talked about the important role the alliance plays in the region and around the globe, the U.S. Soldiers who serve on the Korean Peninsula and the strong relationship the American military community shares with its Korean friends, neighbors and allies.
"America has sent its sons and daughters here to serve together with our ROK allies since 1950 because it was the right thing to do," said Johnson. "Our commitment to this great nation and its citizens continues today where over 28,000 U.S. service members proudly serve throughout this peninsula."
