BAUMHOLDER, Germany -- Installation Management Command Europe announced the winners of the 2013 Best Warrior Competition in a ceremony here April 19.

Sgt. Bryan Teneyck and Spc. Jonathan Grates, both from U.S. Army Garrison Benelux in Brussels, Belgium, are the Best Warrior Noncommissioned Officer and Soldier of the Year.

The Best Warrior Competition, held in Baumholder April 15-18, consisted of a number of warrior tasks and drills including an Army Physical Fitness Test, marksmanship, combatives, an essay and written examination, a 12-mile foot march with combat gear, warrior tasks and drills, day and night land navigation, and an appearance before a board of brigade command sergeants major.

"This has been a tough competition, one that has tested all of these Soldiers' physical and mental strength and endurance," said Command Sgt. Maj. Jeffrey Hartless, IMCOM Europe. "I, once again, commend all of you for your efforts."

During the ceremony both winners were awarded Army Commendation Medals by Col. Antony Haager, IMCOM Europe deputy director.

"As we prepare to celebrate the 238th birthday of the U.S. Army this June, I couldn't help but reflect on how you represent the newest generation of America's most dedicated sons and daughters," said Haager. "Much has been asked of you, but selfless service is a responsibility you have taken on enthusiastically.

"You are the strength of our Nation, the strength of Installation Management Command, and the strength of our communities."

Teneyck and Grates will represent IMCOM Europe at the IMCOM-level competition in San Antonio, Texas, May 13-18.
