Single Army Logistics Enterprise (SALE)

The Army Logistics Enterprise vision is information superiority through real-time visibility of personnel, equipment, and supplies anywhere in the distribution pipeline and within the operational environment. This requires a seamless, integrated, end-to-end network delivered in a Single Army Logistics Enterprise (SALE). Implementing the SALE will require a merger of Warfighter and Business systems into a single, harmonious environment from the manufacturer to the foxhole and aligned with joint requirements.

What is the Army doing?
Our SALE Strategy consists of three distinct phases: modernizing current systems and data; realizing GCSS-Army, PLM+, LMP and integration into one common enterprise-wide capability.

First, we are migrating our legacy applications to meet the minimum essential wartime needs and prepare our data for new and powerful applications. Simultaneously, we are making evolutionary and migratory changes to our legacy systems.

What continued efforts does the Army have planned for the future?
Several Army programs will support the creation of the SALE IT Investment Strategy, streamlining the process to eliminate the need for duplicative functions in legacy systems. Army Programs that support this initiative are Global Combat Support System-Army (GCSS-A), Logistics Modernization Program (LMP), Future Business System (FBS), Future Combat Systems Advanced Collaborative Environment (FCS-ACE) and Transportation Coordinator’s Automated Information for Movements System II (TC-AIMSII).

GCSS-Army is a full integrated, automated logistics system that will reengineer the current tactical Standard Army Management Information System (STAMIS) and integrate the Army's tactical supply chain. GCSS-Army F/T is the functional capability for deployable forces and will support Army combat units engaged in using one common web-based solution to enable supply, maintenance, property book, aviation and ammunition. PLM+ is the enabler supporting the Single Army Logistics Enterprise (SALE) requirements to integrate national and field level logistics by providing a Single Point of Entry/Exit for the connection, mediation, control and exchange of logistics data, thereby eliminating costly "point-point" interfaces.

LMP modernizes two of the Army’s largest wholesale logistics systems – Commodity Command Standard System (CCSS) and Standard Depot System (SDS) -- and provides critical weapons systems to Warfighers.

GCSS-Army will incorporate GFEBS Financial Solution creating a federated financial system of record (GCSS-A/GFEBS to provide an integrated logistics and finance capability. Federated approach will be in place when GCSS-A/GFEBS go live.

Why is this important to the Army?
The SALE is the Army’s initiative to refine enterprise architectures and leverage industry best practices. The SALE modernizes logistical processes and systems that provide critical warfighter support. The SALE will be the catalyst for significant reductions in current redundant and stove-piped Information Technology investments. It modernizes business systems that provide critical Warfighter support. It replaces outdated legacy systems through incremental fielding of modernized capability. It also leverages resources and integrates processes and infrastructure, while presenting accurate data and status that is visible anywhere.
