The six-day, 350-mile bike ride rolled through Fort Hood April 11. Edwards is a wounded warrior assigned to WTB, 1st Battalion, B Company, and Ellingson is assigned to WTB, 1st Battalion, A Company. The purpose of the cycle challenge is to support wounded, ill and injured Soldiers during their rehabilitation and recovery. More than 160 wounded warriors, veterans and supporters participated in the 2013 challenge, which began in San Antonio April 8 and ended in Arlington April 13.

USO-Metropolitan Washington honored civilian and servicemember volunteers for their commitment to helping military men and women during its Annual Celebration of Volunteers ceremony Saturday. Families, USO and military leadership joined at the Fort Belvoir Officers' Club to applaud the efforts of 5,000 volunteers in the Washington D.C., Northern Virginia and Baltimore areas. These volunteers sacrificed 83,000 hours of personal time to host events, prepare food and put together care packages for servicemembers.

Servicemembers and Department of Defense civilians need to be mindful of the emails they receive in their personal email accounts. A number of users accessing personal webmail accounts from their DoD systems recently exposed a spear-phishing campaign targeting DoD users' personal webmail accounts. A total of 15 different subject lines and four different domains appeared in the spear-phishing campaign.

Community volunteers helped improved the quality of life for man and nature during the annual Potomac Watershed Clean-up Sunday. Soldiers, students and civilians maneuvered through wooded areas, filling bags with garbage, along Belvoir's shoreline. Volunteers sacrificed personal time, removing trash from several areas on post such as Dogue Creek, Tompkins Basin Park and Accotink Bay.

Ric Edelman, host of the television show "The Truth about Money" answered questions about mortgages, retirement plans and educational savings posed by servicemembers, retirees and civilians from the National Capital Region during a taping of his show at the Fort Belvoir Community Center, Tuesday night. Edelman, who's been named Barron's top independent financial adviser three of the last four years spoke about how it's vital to start saving for retirement as early as possible, and that servicemembers should not get complacent about their money. He also stressed that servicemembers could follow his four-point plan for better financial success.

National Prescription Drug Take-back Day will be observed locally and nationwide on April 27. Sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the day is specifically set aside to allow an opportunity to empty medicine cabinets, kitchen drawers, purses and pillboxes of unwanted, unused and expired prescription drugs, and take them to authorized collection sites in local communities.

A panel of judges awarded the Natural Resources Conservation large installation award to the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center in Greenville, Ky., for the 2012 Secretary of the Army Environmental Awards Program. The Kentucky Army National Guard (ARNG) nomination cited partnerships and relationships as the reasons for their natural resources conservation successes.

SCHOFIELD BARRACKS -- Female Soldiers in the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, are more prepared to deal with possible sexual assault attempts thanks to Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) training implemented in the brigade during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, here, April 10. R.A.D. Systems is a program designed specifically to help females deal with potential attackers or compromising situations by incorporating their physical build and mentality into the training.

SCHOFIELD BARRACKS -- Commanders and soon-to-be-commanders of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, participated in the Warrior X-3 challenge, held here, April 3-4, in an effort to develop more adaptable leaders within the Warrior team. The exercise focused on adaptability in leaders and building unit cohesion by fostering relationships between commanders of various battalions within the brigade.
