Joint Trauma Analysis and Prevention of Injury in Combat Program
What is it'
The Joint Trauma Analysis and Prevention of Injury in Combat (JTAPIC) Program is a partnership among DOD intelligence, operational, medical and materiel development communities that collects, integrates and analyzes injury and operational data with the goal of improving our understanding of our vulnerabilities to threats and enabling the development of improved tactics, techniques and procedures (TTP) and materiel solutions to prevent or mitigate traumatic injuries. The JTAPIC program was established at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command (USAMRMC), Fort Detrick, Md., in July 2006 to fulfill the joint database and information sharing intent outlined in Section 256 of Public Law 109-163, National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2006 and in Department of Defense Directive 6025.21, Medical Research for Prevention, Mitigation and Treatment of Blast Injuries.
What has the Army done'
The Army has used the actionable information provided by the JTAPIC Program to change the way we protect our warfighters from combat injuries. Modifications and upgrades have been made to vehicle equipment and protection systems, such as seat design, blast mitigating armor, and fire suppression systems. Combatant commander have altered their TTP in the field as a result to the incident analyzes and near real-time feedback on threats provided by the JTAPIC partnership.
Why is this important to the Army'
As our Army continues to conduct full-spectrum operations, it is important to capitalize on opportunities to quickly identify weaknesses and vulnerabilities through incident analysis and lessons learned to adjust our TTP and upgrade vehicles and protective equipment to reduce injury and save lives. Enhancing our ability to adapt more quickly will maintain our tactical advantage on the battlefield.
What continued efforts does the Army have planned for the future'
The JTAPIC partnership will continue to collaborate with and provide actionable information to, vehicle program managers and Training and Doctrine Command capability managers to assist with force modernization decisions. In addition, JTAPIC will continue to provide targeted analysis and information in response to specific requests for information from DOD customers to help guide decisions.
